Larry G. Godfrey

York—Larry G. Godfrey, 78, went to be with the Lord, September 28, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. He was the husband of Virginia D. (Hollandsworth) Godfrey to whom he was married for 58 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11 AM, Monday, October 3, 2016 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York with, the Rev. Randy Brown officiating. A viewing will be held from 9-11 AM, at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Born September 10, 1938 in York, he was a son of the late Burnam and Virginia (Gibson) Godfrey. Larry was a devoted husband,father and Pop. He was employed with Motor Freight Express for 28 years and later retired from On Time Delivery in 2006 after several years of employment. A lover of all things John Wayne, he enjoyed hunting with his family and was an avid Army Football fan. He played semi-pro football for the York Rams and softball for Arena News. In addition to his wife, Mr. Godfrey is also survived by two daughters, Virginia E. Leiphart and her husband, Rodney of York and Karen L. Bowman and her husband, Scott of York; one son, Larry M. Godfrey and his wife, Sheree of York; nine grandchildren, Chad, Daniel, Wade, Brittney, Travis, Marissa, Sarah and Aaron; four great grandchildren, Mason, Marley, Eli and Vincent; one sister, Shonna Winters and her husband, Harry of Manchester; two brothers, Burnam Godfrey, Jr., and his wife, Barbara of York and Thomas Godfrey of York. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Josh and his beloved brother, Reginald Godfrey.
