RED LION- Larry E. Ward, 68, died on Tuesday, March 18, 2008. He was the loving husband of Alice R. (Thompson)Ward for 45 years. A Celebration of Life service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2008 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham PL., Red Lion with the Rev. Dr. Charles W. Salisbury and Rev. Eddie D.D. Miller officiating. A visitation will be from 1 to 2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Born January 21, 1940 in Red Lion, he was a son of the late Maurice E. and Marie (Conrad) Ward. Larry was a 1957 graduate of Red Lion High School and attended York College. He was employed for over forty years as President of New Era Die Co., Red Lion until retiring in 1998. He was the former owner of Red Lion Rent-All, Lion Auto, and Cape Horn Corner. Larry began showing horses as a child and later became one of the leading owners and breeders of Appaloosa Horses in PA. He was a member of the National ApHC, Keystone ApHC, Freestate ApHC and an honorary lifetime member of the Delware ApHC. Larry enjoyed many prestigious wins with his horses including National and World show titles and two ApHC Medallion winners. The breeding program he developed still flourishes with horses he bred being shown today. Larry also enjoyed golf and was a member of the Red Lion Country Club and later served as a ranger at Cool Creek Country Club where he recently played in a league. He was life member with the Red Lion Elks. Larry was also a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church in Red Lion. In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by two sons, Mark E. Ward of Abbottstown and Andrew L. Ward of Red Lion; two grandchildren, Jessica and Matthew Ward; one brother, Gerald Ward of FL; and one nephew, Chad Ward of York.
