Lani Elaine Jones

Dallastown--On Friday, February 17, 2023, Lani Elaine (Shutt) Jones, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away at the age of 77. She was the wife of Dr. George W. W. Jones, Jr., whom she married July 20, 1968. The couple enjoyed 54 very happy years together.

Lani was born August 24, 1945, in Harrisburg. She was the daughter of the late Ralph S. And Bernice E. Shutt. Since 1968, Lani was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Dallastown. Over the years, she served in various roles within the church. She was Director of the Children’s Department, an adult Sunday school leader, and a valuable member of various church committees. She also sang in the choir, which she truly enjoyed, as she cherished her time with her choir friends during their weekly practices. Her faith was never-ending, and her positive spirit reached beyond the church.

Growing up, Lani attended the Susquehanna Township Schools in Dauphin County. She graduated from Millersville University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish Education. After completing her student teacher requirements at Dallastown Area High School, she secured a position teaching Spanish at West York Area High School. After the birth of her two daughters, Lani returned to work in the field of banking at York Federal Savings and Loan and several other banking institutions. She served as a teller, a personnel director, and as a mortgage loan originator. For a time, she extended her knowledge in banking and also worked as a real estate agent. Lani also served as Judge of Elections in York Township for several years, which she really enjoyed.

Lani and her husband celebrated many happy times with their daughters, their three grandchildren, and their son-in-law. She and George also regularly vacationed at Ocean City, N.J., where they loved listening to the ocean and walking the boardwalk. Lani especially loved cheering on her grandchildren at their various sporting events and getting together for family meals at every holiday. She was the perfect audience for a good joke and lovingly listened to stories of her grandchildren for hours. She will be missed greatly.

In addition to her husband, Lani is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Jones of New Jersey and Pamela Daskalakis of Harrisburg, her son-in-law Laki Daskalakis, and her grandchildren, Anastasia, Alexander, and Angelo. She is also survived by her brother, Lawrence (Dolores) Shutt, and her sister Roxanne Wertz (Bill), both of Harrisburg, and several nieces and nephews. Her brother Gary Shutt preceded her in death, as did her brother-in-law, Robert Jones.
