Lamar J. Smith

YORK NEW SALEM - Lamar J. Smith, 76, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2010 at Rest Haven. He was the husband of the late Eva L. (Powers) to whom he was married to for 35 years. A celebration of life service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Road, York with the Rev. Richard B. Starr officiating. A viewing will be held 9-10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Mr. Smith was born December 30, 1933 in Seven Valleys, a son of the late William and Effie M. (Copp) Smith. He was a former employee for CF Motor freight for 39 years until his retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving his country during the Vietnam War. Mr. Lamar was a member of V.F.W Post 5265 and Teamsters Local 776. He was an avid fisherman; enjoyed watching NASCAR; going yard sales and auctions, and working part time at the auction. Mr. Lamar is survived by a son, James P. Williams of Bethel, PA; two daughters, Patricia A. Williams of York New Salem, and Donna L. Smith and husband, David of Spring Grove; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Matthews of Seven Valleys, and Phyllis Runkle and husband, Bill of Ocean City, MD; best friend, Linda F. Zuck; several nieces and nephews; and his loving dog, Babe. He was preceded in death by three brothers.
