Kent N. Anderson

YORK- Kent N. Anderson, 71, beloved husband of JoAnne (Bott) Anderson, left this earthly existence on Friday April 28, 2017 to be welcomed into God’s waiting arms. Kent was born September 4, 1945 in York, the son of the late Eli J. and Olive B. (Speakman) Anderson and was the father of Trudi M. (Alan) Tate, Kent N. (Denise) Anderson, Kori S. (Ron) Kelly; stepfather of Matthew (Amy) Warntz, and Benjamin Warntz, all of York. He was blessed to be the grandfather of Chandler, Spencer and Olivia Tate; Drew, Marley, Brock Anderson; Kacey and Hunter Werner and Abbie Kelly; and Madelyn, Amelia and Griffin Warntz. He is survived by brothers Gary E. and Bruce N. Anderson, both of California and was predeceased by a brother Glenn O. Anderson. Kent was a graduate of Central York High School Class of 1963, a member of the Hawks Club of York, and a retiree of Caterpillar Tractor where he worked for 30 years. He was a maintenance welder/mechanic who could weld anything but a ‘broken heart and a crack of daylight.’ In retirement he was a welding instructor for CAT at southern plants and also for local business. His early retirement afforded him the opportunity to build his and JoAnne’s retirement home which showcased his skills in all the various trades. He was a creative man who enjoyed challenges and appreciated all forms of craftsmanship and art. Kent truly never met a stranger and loved making people laugh. He was interested in everyone’s story. He used his gregarious personality as MC of retirement parties, as friend and handyman for elderly neighbors, as bike fixer and advice giver for neighborhood kids. You would find Kent wherever there was a need. He was truly a man with silver in his hair and gold in his heart. He loved days spent camping, traveling in his motorhome, Assateague Island, pontooning at Lake Marburg while fishing catch and release, relaxing on a bench people-watching; but most of all, time spent with his family regaling them with stories of his youth in the Roundtown countryside. He will be remembered for his ability to tell a joke appropriate for any circumstance. He was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. After a private graveside service, the family will welcome friends to his home for a celebration of life at 3:00 on Saturday, May 6 2017. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to ‘Man of Steel Memorial Ride’ which has been scheduled for July 15 in York. Information can be found at https://www.facebook.com/events/184509218692852/?ti=icl The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Hospice of Central PA for their experience and kindness during the last two weeks and for making Kent comfortable. Also our gratitude to the staff at Johns Hopkins for guiding us through the last year and a half, and for the encouragement of the caring doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers, particularly those on the second floor and fifth floor Weinberg who became like family.
