Kenneth R. Halstead

WELLSBURG, NY- Kenneth R. Halstead, Age 92 of Zephyrhills, Florida passed away Thursday, May 7, 2009. Kenneth was born May 20, 1916 in Ridgebury Township, PA son of the late Smith A. and Nancy (Lawler) Halstead. He was married to the late Janet A. Spencer in March 1968. She predeceased him January 1, 2003.He worked most of his life as a poultry farmer and later as a police officer and then as a security guard before retiring and moving to Florida. He was a member of several fraternal organizations. He was the last surviving founding member of the Ridgebury Sportsman Club. Ken enjoyed hunting and fishing and his music which he played several instruments by ear. He is preceded in death by his wife Janet Spencer Halstead, a son Howard Smith Halstead, brothers, Merle and Joseph Halstead and sister Ellen Lusk Ken is survived by a sister Kathryn "Inez" Ruuspakka of Arizona, children, James Halstead of Montana, George Halstead of Alaska, Pat Moylan, John Spencer and Jean Williams all of New York, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to call from 1 to 2 PM Friday, May 22, 2009 at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street, Wellsburg, NY. Ken's funeral service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 2:00 PM. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, NY at the convenience of the family.
