Kenneth R. Granata, Jr.

YORK- Kenneth R. Granata, Jr., Lieutenant Colonel U.S. Army, Reserve (Ret.), passed away on March 6, 2021 at the age of 77. He was the husband of Charlotte A. Greenawalt, with whom he shared 35 years of marriage.


Born in Washington, DC, Colonel Granata was the son of the late Kenneth R. Sr. and Jennie C. (Peluso) Granata.

He enlisted in the US Army in 1966 and served with the 7th Battalion 17th Artillery. He became a commissioned officer, and served on the DMZ in Korea, joined the Army Reserves for 20 years specializing in civil affairs and psychological operations in Maryland, Missouri, and DC. He was Commander of 308th PSYOP Co., Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base, MO, and recognized for his leadership and meritorious service

.

In civilian life he received Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the University of Maryland (College) Park in health science, political science, and public administration. He had a talent for sales and marketing and held regional and national positions in the biotechnology research service industry for several Maryland companies.


Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Kenneth (Megan) Granata, III of Charleston, SC; three grandchildren, a sister, Grace Granata of Kingwood, TX; many relatives around DC, MD, VA, NY and FL.


Colonel Granata will be remembered for his love of family, country, US Army and Reserve service, boating on the Chesapeake Bay, and meticulous care of his cars he enjoyed on the open road.


Services with military honors and escort will be held October 12, 2022 at Arlington National Cemetery, in Arlington, VA. Contributions or memorials may be made to any organization serving and honoring our veterans.
