RED LION- Kenneth L. Dettinger, 77, died Monday, October 5, 2009 at Manor Care Health Services South in York. He was the husband of Grace M. (Spahr) Dettinger. The couple celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on June 30th. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion. The Reverend Dr. Glenn M. Dietrich will be officiating at the service. Viewings will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday and 1-2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bethlehem Stonepile U. M. Cemetery with full military honors by York County Veteran's Honor Guard. Mr. Dettinger was born in Windsor on March 2, 1932, a son of the late Clarence W. and Elsie (Schmuck) Dettinger, Sr. He was a retired woodworker who worked for many area companies. He formerly was Chief of Police for Windsor Borough and was a volunteer Fire Police for Red Lion Fire Company, Station 34 for 20 years, and was a volunteer Ambulance Driver for Red Lion Area Ambulance Association for 20 years. Mr. Dettinger was a member of St. Paul's U.M. Church in Red Lion, Red Lion American Legion and Red Lion VFW. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Along with his wife, Mr. Dettinger leaves three sons, Gregory L. Dettinger, Sr. of York, Shawn A. Dettinger of Hershey, and Ray B. Dettinger of Red Lion; two daughters, Debbie A. Stine of Windsor and Betty J. Graham of York; eight grandchildren, a great granddaughter, and a brother Clarence W. "John" Dettinger, Jr. of Springvale. He was preceded in death by a son, Keith W. Dettinger; three sisters, Shirley, Minnie, and Betty; and a brother, Dale.
