TROY- Kenneth E. Gerould, 84, of East Smithfield, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 from Robert Packer Hospital. He was the loving husband of Alene (Wakely) Gerould. The couple married Oct. 5, 1975 and had 37 happy years together. Family and friends are welcome to call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at the Federated Church of East Smithfield, Church Street, East Smithfield. The funeral service to honor Ken's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday Jan. 4 at the church with his pastor, Rev. Stan Gill, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Union Cemetery. The Gerald W. Vickery Jr. Funeral Home Inc., 1093 West Main St., Troy, has been entrusted with arrangements. Ken was born on Feb. 3, 1928 in East Smithfield, son of the late Lewis and Lena (Dickinson) Gerould. He was a graduate of SRU High School, Class of 1946. Upon graduation from school, Ken married his high school sweetheart Sylvia Pipher who predeceased him in 1974. He worked the family farm for a number of years, drove a school bus, milk truck, and coal truck as well. He also worked a number of years for U.S. Steel-American Bridge Co. in Elmira. After briefly owning his own trucking company, he was employed by Gulf Oil Co., from which he retired. He was a member of the Federated Church of East Smithfield, and enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spirited political discourse. Ken is survived by his wife Alene; his children, Nancy (David) Galleher of Geneva, N.Y., Michael Gerould of Bradenton, Fla. and Edward Gerould of Bentley Creek; his step-children Diane (Terry) Husted of Centerville, Darlene (David) Hayford of Athens, Duane Ordway of Athens and Darla (Peter) Sielaff of Trumansburg, N.Y.; several grandchildren including Kelly (Dan) Chacchia of Webster, N.Y., Bethany (Jeff) Scaglia of Geneva, N.Y., and Shane (Debbie) Gerould of Lowman, N.Y.; many great-grandchildren; his sister Mary Ellen (Zane) Chamberlain of East Smithfield; and with several nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Sylvia, and his two brothers Charles and Robert Gerould.
