York—Kenneth E. Chronister, 95, died Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at York Lutheran Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Sprenkle Drive. He was the husband of the late Ethel M. (Marsteller) Chronister to whom he was married for 52 years until her death in 2001. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, December 16, 2013 at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, 1054 Ridgewood Rd, York with his pastor, the Rev. Cathy H. Sherry officiating. Burial will be private in Mt. Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Full military honors will be provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard following the memorial service at the church. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York is in charge of arrangements. Born January 29, 1918 in York, he was a son of the late Harper H. and Tillie M. (Bender) Chronister. He was employed as a welder with Harley-Davidson for 23 years until his retirement in 1983. A United States Army Veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, he was also a member of Mt. Zion United Church of Christ in York and International Association of Machinists – Lodge 175. He was an accomplished organist as well as a widely known pipe organ builder at Furst Organs and local organ consultant for many churches. Mr. Chronister is survived by three sons, Matthew K. Chronister and wife, Diane of Jacobus, Mark E. Chronister and wife, Cheril of Dover and John H. Chronister and wife, Vanessa of York; two daughters, Jozann R. Chronister and husband, Ryan Hooper of Edmonds, WA and Mary A. Brinker and husband, Steve Collins of Hampstead, MD; six grandchildren, Amy, Sara, Michelle, Kate, Tyler and Jessie; one great grandson, Ryan Scott; two brothers, Herbert and Clifford Chronister both of York and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, 1054 Ridgewood Rd, York, PA 17402.
