MILL HALL - Katheryn Marie Adams, 92, formerly a resident of 210 B.E.N. Avenue, Mill Hall, Pa passed away at Susque View Nursing Home on October 13, 2016 with her family at her side. Born September 13, 1924 in West Decatur, PA. She was the daughter of Irvin M. and Amanda Belle (Shaw) Lindsay. Katheryn graduated from Philipsburg High School in 1942. She then was accepted into Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1945 receiving her diploma in nursing. While attaining her nursing diploma, she joined the service and completed the U.S. Navy Cadet Nursing Program. When the war ended she was assigned the task of caring for our physically and mentally injured service people returning stateside, which she took great honor in caring for her fellow servicemen. Katheryn completed a course of study in Administration/Management Nursing at the University of PA in Philadelphia, and then she accepted the position of Assistant Director of Nursing Services at Philadelphia General Hospital, a 3000 bed medical facility. Prior to accepting this position, she was Head Nurse on Men's Medical at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh. Katheryn married William R. Adams, of Clearfield PA on December 21, 1946. After her husband graduated from Hahnemann Medical School they located in Mill Hall in 1958 and helped set up her husband's family practice, she continued her nursing career working with him. Katheryn was a Red Cross Nurse for over 60 years, she organized and instructed many accredited courses in the social, physical and medical development of infants and children. Her skills were utilized by Red Cross as a volunteer Red Cross Nurse during Bloodmobiles. She also volunteered with Red Cross during disasters, in maintaining first aid stations at shelters. The desire to have available to all children, young adults and families a safe and clean swimming area prompted her to procure a site, solicit and acquire funding to construct a community swimming pool, which was dedicated in June 1972, within the confines of the Mill Hall Community Park. She was a Cub Scout Leader and Den Mother for several years in Mill Hall. She was also active in Boy Scouts of America. While her husband, Bill was active in Clinton County Medical Society, she was President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Clinton County Medical Society. She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the PA Medical Society, as well as our local Ladies Auxiliary of the Lock Haven Hospital. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rowena Chapter 175, having been a past Worthy Matron. She was a past member of Mill Hall Boro Council, having served on the Planning Commission, Park Association, Sanitary and Codes Commission. She was an active member of the Mill Hall United Methodist Church, it's Crusaders Class, and the Christian Women's Club. She organized her churches Bellringers Group for Call to Worship. After her husbands death, she worked at Jersey Shore Hospital until retirement in 1991. She was a Member of the "Piecemakers Quilting Guild", and a member of the "Forget Me Not Circle" Garden Club She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Melvin Lindsay, and her husband, William R. Adams, MD She is survived by two sons, Keith Adams, MD (Vicki) of Mill Hall; William Stanley Adams of Lock Haven; and one loving daughter, Karen Cox (Bill) of State College. One sister, Betty Jean Swarthout (Art) of North Carolina and one brother, Stanley Lindsay (Bernice) of Centre Hall, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren. The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall with Pastor Joan Gordon officiating. Friends and relatives will be received form 4 – 6 p.m. An Eastern Star Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. An additional visitation will be held from 1 - 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct., 18, 2016 at the Oak Grove United Methodist Church, Old Erie Pike Road, West Decatur Twp., Clearfield Co. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Susque-View Home, Mill Hall United Methodist Church or the Mill Hall Community Pool through the funeral home. Interment will be at Crown Crest Memorial Park, Clearfield.
