YORK-Katherine “Kitty” Bowie Duckett Miller passed away peacefully at her home in York, PA on November 15th, 2021. Born in Annapolis, MD on March 12, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Warren Bird and Mary Knight Linthicum Duckett. Kitty is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 63 years, DeWolfe H. “Hugh” Miller, Jr. Also surviving are sons Vice Admiral DeWolfe H. “Chip” Miller III (USN, Ret) and wife Ellen of York, PA; Michael Warren Miller and wife Kim of Lititz, PA; grandchildren Sarah Elizabeth Ackenbom and wife Skye of Palmyra, VA; Ryan DeWolfe Miller and wife Sarah of Providence, RI; and Emily Russo Miller of York, PA. Her brother, Judge Warren Bird Duckett, Jr. of Annapolis, MD predeceased her. There will be no viewing. A memorial and burial service will be held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 1502 4th Ave., York, PA 17403 ( the corner of 4th and Ogontz Streets) on Saturday, November 20th at 1:30 PM. Visitation will precede the service in the great room of the church, beginning at 1:00 o’clock. Kitty was a 1957 graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, MD, with a B.S. degree in Journalism and Public Relations. She was a member of Delta Gamma sorority; Diamond honorary; Phi Chi Theta businesswomen’s honorary; Mortar Board; Campus Judicial Board; writer for the Diamondback newspaper, and Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. Following college, she worked as associate Public Relations director at Westinghouse Electric Corporations defense facilities near BWI airport. After moving to York in 1965, she was a substitute teacher in York County schools before joining Campbell Chain Company (now Cooper Tools), where she worked in advertising and marketing positions for 14 years. Kitty later joined Woodstream Corporation in Lititz, PA where she served as Advertising manager and marketing services manager prior to retiring in 1992. Kitty was active in the York community through the years, serving as president of Welcome Wagon Club of York; York County Historical Trust and its auxiliary; White Rose Bridge Club; Garden Club of York; and the Jewish Community Center. She loved to cook and entertain; was an avid reader; enjoyed playing contract and duplicate bridge; traveling; and participating in water aerobics which she taught for a number of years at York’s Jewish Community Center. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church since 1965. The family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions can be made to Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church and/or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
