York - Karl Kochenour, 88, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Cross Keys Village, New Oxford. He was the husband of Wilhelmena "Billie" (Hinkle) Kochenour to whom he was married for 66 years. A life tribute service will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at Heffner Funeral Chapel, 1551 Kenneth Road, York. A private burial will be held in Mt. Rose Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Mr. Kochenour was born January 24, 1920 in North York, the son of the late Karl Kochenour and Beatrice Alwine. He graduated from William Penn Senior High School in 1937. A United States Navy Veteran, he served aboard the USS Vincennes during WWII. He retired from St. Regis Paper Company in 1983, where he was employed for 44 years. He enjoyed hunting and sports, and was a life member of Honey Run Country Club. He had also been a member of the Hawk's Gunning Club, Yankee Athletic Club, and Elk Run Hunting Camp in Tioga County. In addition to bowling, he played softball, and later umpired softball in the York County Industrial League. He then became an avid golfer. He was proud of acing the 140 yard 8th hole at Valley Green Golf Club in 1970, the same course at which he won a club championship. When not playing or watching golf, his favorite past times were spending time with the family and traveling. Mr. Kochenour and his wife Billie have been in most of the continental United States, as well as Hawaii and Alaska. They also traveled to England and Scotland. In addition to his wife, Karl is survived by five children, Gwen Walters of York, Bonnie Wilmer and husband Bob, of Medway, Mass.; Carol Russell and husband Ronnie, of Red Lion; Ken Kochenour of Gladwine, and Deb McCune and husband Tom, of York. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the York Visiting Nurse Association, 218 E.
