Justine Janet (Vogelgesang) Miller

Justine Janet “Jan” Vogelgesang Miller, 80, of 101 Mahantongo Street, Pottsville, passed away peacefully Wednesday at the home of her son among her loving family. Born in White Haven, August 30, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Lavinia Earnhart Vogelgesang. She attended Pottsville schools. Jan served her country in the Army from 1955 to 1957 as a Private First Class. On November 19, 1966 she married the late Lawrence William Miller, who preceded her in death, February 15, 1980. Jan was a homemaker most of her life, but did work part time at the former Pomeroys Department Store. She enjoyed those years and the many friends that she made during that time. She also enjoyed the many pinochle card games played with her friends and family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters Mary Best and Elizabeth Haley, brothers Harry Vogelgesang, Maurice Vogelgesang, John Vogelgesang, Leo Vogelgesang, brother-in-laws, William Haley, Charles Best and Joseph Kelly, Step-daughter Janice Burke and Step-son-in-law Ronald Imschweiler and Infant Grandson, Lawrence William Miller. Jan is survived by her son Martin J. Miller and his fiancé Carol “Tahlula” Meyer, Port Carbon, grandsons Christopher Michael Miller and Shane Patrick Miller, Middleburg, FL, great granddaughter Kylie Elizabeth Olinde, Gauthier, MS, Step daughter Judy Imschweiler, Schuylkill Haven, Step son James Miller and his wife Joyce, Pottsville, her Godson, Timothy Haley, Palo Alto; Step grandchildren Curtis Burke and his wife Kendra, Todd Burke, Vincee’ Bailey, Edward Burke, Jamie Sheriff and her husband Dave, Neil Miller, Heidi Fox and her husband Daniel, Marti Miller, Chris Miller and Ronda Imschweiler; nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Interment will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park immediately following Mass. Relatives and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass Saturday at the church. The Schlitzer, Allen, Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., Sixth and West Market streets, Pottsville, is handling the arrangements.
