Judy L. Guise

Judy (Dehoff) Guise, 78, of York, Pennsylvania passed away at York Hospital on February 21, 2025 after complications from an accident she suffered at home earlier in the month. She was the beloved wife of Larry Guise, who preceded her in death in December 2020.

Born on March 28, 1946 in York, she was the daughter of the late Emory C. and Melba M. (Kenny) Dehoff. She was a dedicated member of Codorus Church of the Brethren, where she had attended since returning to York in 2003.

Judy is survived by son Scott and his wife Jill of Red Lion; and son Mark and his wife Tanya of Ephrata. She was the extremely proud nana to four grandchildren: Carly (25), Shane (21), Addison (15) and Olivia (14). She is also survived by brother Galen Dehoff of Dover; sister Karen Renn and her husband Charles of Wrightsville; sister Pattie Miller and husband Kiehl of New Cumberland; and sister-in-law Janice Dehoff of York, brother-in-law Marty Eyster of Hanover and brother-in-law Luther Strine. She was preceded in death by her sister Phyliss Eyster, sister Cathy Strine, and brother Sherwood Dehoff.

Judy graduated from Dallastown Area High School in 1964 before attending York Junior College for two years. She moved on to Millersville State College and graduated with a degree in education in 1968. Judy began her teaching career at Friendship Elementary after her graduation from Millersville. She taught at Friendship until the birth of her first son Scott in 1972.

After a family relocation to Amherst, Ohio, Judy resumed her teaching career at Powers Elementary school in the Amherst School District. With the exception of a one-year sabbatical, she taught at Powers from 1985 through her retirement in 2007.

Judy met Larry on a blind date in September 1968 and the two were married six months later, on March 29, 1969. They celebrated 50 years of wedded bliss with a family trip to the Dominican Republic in the summer of 2019. Larry and Judy enjoyed spending time together, traveling and spoiling their grandchildren. Judy missed Larry very much after his passing in 2020.

After retirement, Judy was still very active in helping children with her focus being on the Codorus Church Backpacks program. It’s a program focused on providing children in the Dallastown Area School District with food and necessities during weekends and times when school is not in session. She was an active member of the choir and had also participated in Codorus theatrical productions over the years.

Judy was an avid crafter and was always sending out cards to friends, family and those in need of uplifting. Her handmade cards were always appreciated by those on the receiving end of these heartfelt notes. She also enjoyed baking, especially with her grandchildren. In addition, Judy was very active in the Carlisle Truck Stop Christmas Card and Cookie Ministry each Christmas season.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life Ceremony in June, 2025.
