Judith R. Anderson

YORK- Judith R. (Sprenkle) Anderson, 72, of York Township, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016 at York Hospital. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11AM June 4, 2016 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 161 N. Main Street in Red Lion, with a visitation from 10-11AM. There will be a gathering with refreshments to follow in the church social hall. Her Pastor, The Reverend David Tietje will be officiating at the service. Mrs. Anderson was born in Red Lion on September 30, 1943, the daughter of the late Russell J. and Phyllis J. (Williams) Sprenkle. Judy, as she was called, was born in the former family home on North Main Street, right across from St. John’s United Church of Christ of which she was a lifelong member. Judy graduated from Red Lion High School in 1961. She participated in intramural programs of track and basketball. She sang along the choral program and was a member of the High School Cheerleading Squad. After high school, Judy attended Airline School and then she had her daughter. Judy worked many years for Bonton Department Store mainly working in the Marketing Room. She was a very hard and dedicated worker taking on part-time jobs to provide for her daughter and herself. Later, she became employed by AMP Incorporated (now Tyco Electronics). She retired in 1998 from the Shrewsbury plant. Judy was a member of Dallastown American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 605. Chicken corn soup and hamburger BBQ were two main items she liked to help with for the bazaar. Judy was very devoted to her family. She had friends but she did not get to spend time with them as her family was her life. Helping as a caretaker to her mother and her aunt that preceded her in death, Judy often helped others from offering a place to stay to whatever someone might be in need of. Her passion was helping others. Children, especially the young, loved being with Judy. She had a very gentle side that children loved. Swimming at the former Sun Valley Club (“Zimmies”), children often flocked around her whether swimming or sitting out of the pool. Later, she was known as “Grandma” by her grandchildren’s friends. As her grandchildren were born, she took on the devotion to help each one. She was a very devoted mother to her daughter. She passed on her passion for the beach to her daughter and her grandchildren. Hershey Park trips were another family favorite, along with swimming at her pool and all the holidays together. Her sisters, brothers, nephew, and niece were also a part of Judy’s life and she loved them dearly. Judy wasn’t a material person but she made sure her whole family’s needs and wants were met. Judy also loved animals. There were times she “rescued” baby rabbits and bottle fed them to give them a start at life before setting them free. Her desire to give to others was her life. Mrs. Anderson leaves a daughter, Wendy S. Roehm Harris and her husband Brian of York; four grandchildren, Keith “KR” Roehm, II, Danielle “Dani” Roehm, Brianna “Breezy” Harris, and Bry Harris; a great granddaughter, Kaylyanna Roehm; a brother, Russell J. Sprenkle, Jr. and his companion Karen Henry; two sisters, Linda K. Neely and Sharon S. Scurfield and her fiancé Dan Reid; two step-grandchildren, Jewel (Harris) Johnston and Brian Harris, II; a nephew Scott Neely; a neice, Jessica (Sprenkle) Roschen and husband Hank and their twin sons. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter Kayla N. Roehm. Judy was told by her daughter, Wendy, “ Whichever one of us gets to Heaven first, give Kayla a big hug and tell her we love her”. Her family is sure she did. Memorial contributions may be made to SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail, York 17406 or the Not One More, York Chapter, at www.notonemore.net
