Joy Elaine Shearer

YORK- Joy Elaine (Shearer) Shearer, 85, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018 at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late William F. Shearer to whom she was married for 57 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, with her pastor, the Rev. Kevin Becker officiating. A visitation will be from 9-10 a.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Born on May 27, 1933 in York, she was a daughter of the late Noah S. and Ethel M. (Roth) Shearer. Joy worked at Central Market in the produce section and as a factory worker for Dentsply International Inc. in York. She loved reading books by James Patterson and would spend up to three hours a day reading the newspaper. Joy and William would travel to Myrtle Beach and enjoyed spending time there throughout the winter months. She loved to spend time with her family, especially during baseball season. She would watch every Philadelphia Phillies game with William. Eventually, her sons got her to switch sides and she became a fan of the New York Yankees. She enjoyed watching baseball as she was surrounded by her family. Joy was also a member of Salem United Church of Christ of Jacobus. Joy is survived by three sons, Randy Shearer, Gary Shearer and wife, Sharon, and Mike Shearer and wife, Gilda; six grandchildren, Rachel Gainer and husband, Seth, Richelle Plitt and husband, Drew, Reggie Shearer and wife, Liz, Rissa Knepp and husband, David, Ashley Arndt and husband, Mike, and Miranda Shearer; 9 great grandchild, and a brother, Ralph Shearer.
