Josephine M. "Josie" Calvin

RED LION- Josephine M. “Josie” (Sckupakus) Calvin, 92, passed away on Friday, December 31, 2021, at Country Meadows in Leader Heights, PA. She was the wife of Warren W. “Bucky” Calvin. Josie was born in Cheltenham, PA on June 4, 1929 to Peter and Marcella Sckupakus. She and her five brothers grew up in the Philadelphia area surrounded by family and many friends. Jo graduated from Cheltenham High School and went on to receive her undergraduate degree in education from Beaver College in Glenside, PA, and her master’s degree from Villanova University. Loving wife and mother, Josie raised three children with her husband while teaching in Cheltenham School District. Later she became a guidance counselor also in Cheltenham. After retiring from the district, Josie enjoyed traveling. She was an avid ballroom dancer, and enjoyed reading, walking, and knitting. Family was very important to Josie and she spent as much time as she could with her children and grandchildren. In addition, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels and much later was an active participant at Country Meadows. More than anything, Josie never stopped caring for the people around her. Mrs. Calvin leaves behind a son, William P. Calvin and his wife Monica of Red Lion; a daughter, Marcella Platz of Warrington, PA; six grandchildren, Alycia Platz, Renee Platz, Bryan Hennessy and his wife Katie, Jamie Hennessy, Trey Hennessy, and Kristopher Calvin; and three great grandchildren, Rivers, Roxanne, and Ella. She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, Linda Fredericks; and five brothers, William, Joseph, Peter, John, and Frank. Memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Services will be held in the Buck’s County Area in the spring, with interment in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Langhorne.
