Joseph T. Opsitos

Joseph T. Opsitos, 76, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017 at York Hospital. He was the cherished husband of Gladys I. (Fleagle) Opsitos to whom he was married 52 years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Monday, July 10, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 251 E. Main St., Dallastown, with Rev. Father John A. McClosky officiating. A viewing will be held from 9-10AM prior to Mass. Burial will be held at 1:30 PM at Fort Indiantown National Gap Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York, is in charge of arrangements. Born September 23, 1940 in Kingston, PA, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph L. and Mary A. (Jacobs) Opsitos. Mr. Opsitos served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and continued to serve our country for over 21 years in service until his retirement from BAE in 1995. Joseph was a member of the Order of the Purple Heart, VFW Post #8951, the American Legion Post #791, and the Blue Lodge Masons based out of Vine Grove, Kentucky. In addition to his wife, Gladys, Mr. Opsitos is survived by a son, Michael Nelson and his wife Jami of Texas; a granddaughter, Kourtney; five step-grandchildren, Michael, Lindsey, Annie, Blake and Nash, and two sisters, Rita Opsitos and Marie Hiznay, both of Bethel Park, PA., and numerous beloved nephews and nieces. Along with his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew “Lane” Nelson. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 251 E.
