Joseph T. Cescon

POTTSVILLE - Joseph T. Cescon, 81, of Pottsville, died Sunday February 1, 2009 at the Schuylkill Medical Center, East Norwegian St., Pottsville, after a four year battle with cancer. Born December 15, 1927 in Palo Alto, he was a son of the late Fortunato and Cerilla (Agnoletti) Cescon. He was a 1946 graduate of Pottsville High School. On August 10, 1957, he married the late Barbara Swantner Cescon, who died Feb. 19, 1976. Until retiring in 1989 he was employed by the Pottsville Republican as the circulation manager. He was a member of St. Patrick's church and a member of the former St. Joseph's Church, both of Pottsville. He was a member of the Catholic War Vets and the Greenwood Hill Fire Co. He was a veteran, serving in the Army during World War II and the Korean War. Joseph was a loving father and grandfather. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by: a brother, Louis Cescon. Surviving Joseph are: three sons, Joseph P., of Ashland, Daniel and his wife Eileen, of Hollywood, FL and Charles and his wife Tammy, of Pottsville; two daughters, Denise M. and her husband Robert Swartz, of Pottsville, and Cheryl Anne Cescon and her companion John Halupa, of Frackville; three grandchildren, Charles J., Nicholas and Samuel; a sister, Mary Visgarda, of Schoentown; nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 AM, from the Church of Saint Patrick, 4th & Mahantongo St., Pottsville. Family and friends may call from the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, Inc. 6th & W. Market St., Pottsville from 9 until 10:45 AM Thursday morning. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Pottsville.
