Joseph R. Shirey

YORK- Joseph R. Shirey, 59, of Spring Garden Township, died Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Vicki S. (Tarascio) Shirey. The couple celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary on August 26th. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion. Viewings will be from 1-3 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral chapel. Joe was born in Baltimore on September 12, 1951, a son of the late Orville J. and Myrtle E. (Hartley) Shirey. He worked for General Dynamics in Red Lion. Joe was a member of the Red Lion Elk's Lodge. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his two grandchildren, golfing, and eating crabs. He was a US Marine Corps veteran who served in Vietnam. Along with his wife, Joe leaves three daughters, Breanna Shirey and DaNica Shirey, both of York, and Shanna Murphy-Theis of California; two grandchildren, Braxton Joines and Aslynn Clark; a sister, Donna Shanebrook of Baltimore; and two brothers, Patrick Shirey of Red Lion and Ed Shirey of Galax, VA. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Shirey and Bucky Shirey.
