Joseph R. Diehl, Sr.

YORK- Joseph R. Diehl, Sr., 85, died on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Rest Haven. He was the husband of Dorothy M. (Harr) Diehl. The couple planned to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on August 10. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 20, 2016 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion with Rev. Bruce E. Fensterbush officiating. A viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the service.Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the American Legion Post #605 in Dallastown. Born on February 9, 1931 in Barrelville, MD, he was the son of the late Joseph Bausch and Mary A. (Diehl) Flannigan. Joseph was Chief of Security at Caterpillar for 38 years until his retirement in 1992. Mr. Diehl served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Joseph was a true outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. Along with his wife, Dorothy, Joseph is survived by three sons, Joseph R. Diehl, Jr. and his wife, Patricia of York Twp., James R. Diehl and his wife, D. Robin of Red Lion and Jesse R. Diehl and his wife, Tammy S. of Heidelberg Twp.; two daughters, Patricia C.M. Stoeckard of Loganville and Tammy Bievenour and her husband, Paul of York; 30 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey R. Diehl, Sr.; one daughter, Dorothy M. Diehl; one granddaughter, Agusta LeAnna Diehl; and his stepfather, Michael D. Flannigan. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 924 N.
