YORK – Joseph P. Popernack, 75, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at his home. He was the husband of Linda L. (Headlee) Popernack to whom he was married for 49 years. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1-3:00 PM Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. Full military honors will be presented at the Funeral Chapel at 2:45 PM Saturday by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Private burial will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Born January 30, 1946 in Bobtown, Greene Co., a son of the late Paul M. and Louise M. (Ciotti) Popernack; he was a 1969 graduate of West Virginia University earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Mr. Popernack retired from ESAB Welding & Cutting in Hanover after 31 years of service. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spring Grove, a life member of NRA and active with Yellow Breeches Anglers & Conservation Assoc. Joseph loved being outdoors hunting, fishing and gardening. He could also be found in his kitchen cooking, honing his amateur winemaking skills and spending time with his family. Mr. Popernack was a US Army veteran having served with the 9th and 25th Infantry Divisions in Vietnam. In addition to his wife, Mr. Popernack is survived by three sons, Michael P. Popernack, DMD and wife Carol of Reedsville, PA, John Patrick Popernack, DMD and wife Carrie of Abbottstown and Joseph Louis Popernack and wife Jennifer of Harrisburg; a granddaughter, Sarah Regina Popernack; a brother, James A. Popernack and wife Myra of Hummelstown; and a brother-in-law, Kelly Spengler of Winfield, PA. He was preceded in death by a brother, Peter P. Popernack; and a sister, Mary E. Spengler.
