HANOVER - Joseph M. Regan, 97, of Hanover, Pa. formerly of Aberdeen, Md., died Friday, December 31, 2010 in his residence at Homewood at Plum Creek in Hanover. He was the son of the late Martin and Isabelle Regan of Providence, RI. Mr. Regan began work as a surveyor for the Federal government in the New England area and upon graduation from Tri State University with a degree in Civil Engineering, began work as an engineer with the Department of the Army at Madison Proving Ground, Madison, IN. Mr. Regan was transferred to Aberdeen Proving Grounds Ballistic Research Laboratories in 1941 as part of the ramp up in anticipation of the United States entry into World War II. Mr. Regan retired from federal service in 1973. While living in Aberdeen, Mr. Regan was active in the Lions Club, The Golden Age Club, The Boy Scouts of America and worked thousands of hours of volunteer work at Harford Memorial Hospital before moving to Hanover in 1999. His hobbies included fishing, woodworking, clock making and repair, shooting pool, cross word puzzles, and he was a regular walker in Aberdeen and at Homewood at Plum Creek for many years. Mr. Regan is survived by three sons; Joseph M. Regan, Jr. of San Diego, Ca., ThomasP. Regan of Indianapolis, In., Kevin J. Regan and daughter in law Patricia D. Regan ofMount Airy, Md.; two daughters Alice Jean Aylward and son in law Ronald Aylward ofCincinnati, Oh., Mary F. Miller and son in law Lance Miller of Hanover, Pa.; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Regan was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Alice D. Regan, and one daughter Patricia A. Comeaux. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 3, 2011 at Saint Josephs Catholic Churchin Hanover, PA with the Reverend Joseph Gotwalt officiating. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Internment will be held in Baker Cemetery in Aberdeen, MD immediately following the funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolent Fund, Homewood at Plum Creek 425 Westminster Ave Hanover, PA 17331.
