York - Joseph L. “Joe” Herman, 69, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at his residence. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at St. Paul’s (Wolf’s) Evangelical Covenant Church, 4501 Wolf’s Church Rd., York with the Reverend Philip Hakanson officiating. A visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in St. Paul’s (Wolf’s) Union Cemetery. Born on February 7, 1945 in York, he was a son of the late Willis H. and Katharine (Emig) Herman. Joe was a maintenance worker for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission until his retirement in 2005. In his younger years, he leased several gas stations and billiard rooms. Joe was a longtime member of St. Paul’s (Wolf’s) E.C.C. He was an excellent bowler and played in the Lincolnway Bowling League. He enjoyed playing pool and watching professional wrestling. Joe was known for his sense of humor and generosity towards others. He will be missed. Mr. Herman is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth E. Herman of West York and Katharine M. LaNasa and her husband, Thomas S. of East York; two grandchildren, Brooke M. LaNasa and Gavin T. LaNasa; one brother, Daniel L. Herman and his wife, Sally of Mt. Wolf; one nephew; two nieces; two grand nieces; and his former wife and close friend, Doris E. Herman. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s (Wolf’s) E.C.C., 4051 Wolf’s Church Rd., York, PA 17404.
