Joseph J. Senft

YORK- Joseph J. Senft, 82, died Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at Manor Care Health Services North. He was the husband of the late Irene F. (Donnelly) Senft, to whom he was married to for 58 years A Vigil Service will be 7 p.m. on Friday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York, with a visitation from 6-7 p.m. The Reverend Dominic DiBiccaro will be officiating the service. Burial will be private in Holy Saviour Cemetery. Mr. Senft was born in Johnstown on October 26, 1924, the son of the late Joseph A. and Veronica (Daley) Senft. Mr. Senft was a 1943 graduate of Johnstown Catholic High School. In addition to Johnstown and York, he has lived in Erie, PA, Fairfield, CT, and Carmel, IN. He retired after 40 years from GTE/Verizon, during which he worked in the Johnstown, PA Erie, PA York, PA Stanford CT, and Westfield, IN areas. Mr. Senft was a life long learner. He was an avid reader and very knowledgeable about the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln. He also enjoyed golf and gardening. He was most recently a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in York and was formerly an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Carmel, IN. He was also a member of Kiwanis Club in York and the Pioneer Club. He was a US Navy veteran who served in WWII. Mr. Senft leaves a daughter, Sharon A. Smith and husband Michael of York, five sons: Joseph J. "Kip" Senft, Jr. and his wife Rebecca of York, Michael E. Senft and his wife Paula of Cold Springs, FL, Richard A. Senft and his wife Renee of Milford, CT, John R. Nicoll-Senft and his wife Joan of West Hartford, CT and Steven P. Senft and his wife Debbie of Erie, 13 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a brother-in-law, Jim Schnurr of Johnstown.
