RENOVO - Joseph I. Grotzinger, 87, of Central Ave., passed away, Saturday, June 11, 2011 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born July 19, 1923 in Renovo. He was the son of the late Albert M. and Mary L. (Modenbach) Grotzinger. Joseph was married on June 18, 1946 to the former Barbara June Miller. They celebrated 64 years of marriage together. He worked as a yard conductor for the Railroad for 43 years. Joseph was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a former usher. He served as a treasurer for the Bucktail Medical Center Auxiliary. He was a 1941 Graduate of St. Joseph High School. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. Joseph was a coach for the Renovo midget little league basketball and football teams. He enjoyed trains and was known for his train floats during the Flaming Foliage parade. He served in the Navy during World War II and was stationed on the USS Hilary P. Jones in the Atlantic and Pacific. Surviving are his loving wife and six sons: John (Marjorie) Grotzinger of Renovo, Stephen, Sr., (Shirley) Grotzinger of New Castle, PA, Timothy (Kelly) Grotzinger of Manheim, PA, Daniel (Carol) Grotzinger of Clarks Summit, PA, Joel Grotzinger of Manitou Springs, CO and Martin Grotzinger of Mechanicsburg, PA Twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive him. A daughter-in-law Mabel Grotzinger of Mechanicsburg, PA, also survives him. Joseph was preceded in death by a son Michael in 2006, three brothers and three sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 925 Huron Ave., Renovo with the Rev. Charles Ugo officiating. Friends and relatives will be received at the church one-hour prior to the mass. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, St. Mary’s, PA Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Church or Bucktail Medical Center, 1001 Pine St., Renovo, PA 1764 Maxwell Funeral Home, Renovo, is handling arrangements.
