Joseph Hutter, Sr.

Joseph Hutter, Sr., 87, of Gillett, PA, passed away peacefully at the Bradford County Manor on Tuesday, February 10, 2009. He was born in Switzerland March 20, 1921, son of the late Paul and Emma Hutter. Joe served his country in the US Navy during World War II in the South Pacific as a fighting Sea Bee. After the war he worked in various machine shops as a machinist. Joe was predeceased by his brothers John and Paul Hutter of Long Island, NY, and his wife of 49 years Rachel Fay (Sheets) Hutter. He is survived by his good friend Phyllis Ames of Gillett, PA, son Joseph Hutter, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Troy, PA, his grandchildren James (Sarah) Hutter of Franklinville, NY, Heidi (Dave) Ferguson of Syracuse, NY, Marilynne (Brian) Burchard of Horseheads, NY, and Raelynne (Nathan) Palmer of Troy, PA, and great grandchildren Dawitt and Timothy Hutter, Cienna Ferguson, Laila and Fabian Burchard, and Madison and Reed Palmer. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Jeanne Hutter and three nephews Richie, Tom, and Paul Hutter of Long Island, NY. Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors. Joe belonged to the NRA and the South Creek Rod & Gun Club. He attended Gillett Baptist Church and was a member of the Troy Vets Club. A memorial service to honor Joe's life is being planned for the spring at the Gillett Baptist Church. The family has entrusted the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 110 West Main Street Troy, PA, with funeral arrangements.
