Joseph Hutter, Jr.

Joseph Hutter, Jr., 63, of Troy, PA went to be with his Lord at the Robert Packer Hospital surrounded by his loving family on February 12, 2011. Joe was born on October 21, 1947 in Elmira, NY, son of the late Joseph Hutter, Sr. and Rachel (Sheets) Hutter. He was a graduate of Troy High School where he was a member of the School football and track teams. He was also a graduate of Mansfield State Teachers College, where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Education. He helped start the Cross Country program at Northeast Bradford High School and coached track for Athens and Troy High Schools. Joe taught History at Northeast Bradford High School, owned and operated his owned dairy farm, and owned and operated his own excavating company for 31 years. He always had a love for farming and was an avid collector of antique John Deere and Farmall tractors. Joe was a member of the East Troy Baptist Church, Sons of American Legion, and coached his sons baseball and football teams. His greatest love was the time Joe got to spend with his family and his 7 grandchildren. His lifelong passions were the New York Yankees, New York Giants, and the Boston Celtics. He enjoyed outdoor activities especially giving his grandchildren rides around the field on Papa Joes Big Toys. Joe is survived by his loving wife Cheryl (Calkins) Hutter, his son James (Sarah) Hutter of Franklinville, NY, his daughters: Heidi (Dave) Ferguson of Syracuse, NY, Marilynne (Brian) Burchard of Troy, PA, Raelynne (Nathan) Palmer of Le Roy, PA, his grandchildren: Dawit and Timothy Hutter, Ciena Ferguson, Laila and Fabian Burchard, Madi and Reed Palmer, his niece Viva (Steven) Clark and their children Shawn and Hannah. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother William Sheets. Family and friends are welcome to call from 3:00-8:00 PM on Friday, February 18, 2011 at the Gerald W. Vickery Funeral Home, Inc. 110 West Main Street Troy, PA. The funeral service to honor Joes life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 19th at the First Baptist Church of Troy, 160 Canton Street, Troy, PA, with his pastor, Rev. Garry Zuber, officiating. Burial will follow the service in Glenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers on behalf of Joes wishes, his family has established a memorial fund in honor of Joe, the Joseph Hutter, Jr. Memorial Fund at Citizens & Northern Bank, 64 Elmira Street Troy, PA 16947. The fund is to benefit the 5th floor which is the Oncology (Cancer) Department at the Robert Packer Hospital where Joe spent many hours with a wonderful staff of people, who truly loved and cared for Joe.
