Joseph Fields, Sr.

YORK-Joseph Fields, Sr., 69, passed away, Sunday, October 17, 2010 at York Hospital. He was the loving wife of Mary (McMillan) Fields to whom he was married to for 48 years. A celebration of life service will be 11:00 am, Friday, October 22, 2010 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with his son, Pastor Tony Fields, Sr. officiating. A visitation will be held 10-11:00 am Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Mr. Fields was born December 24, 1940 in Olar, SC, a son of Rudell (Owens) Fields of Columbia, SC, and the late Frank Fields, Sr. He was a graduate of Voorhees High School, SC, and continued his education at Denmark Technical College where he earned his associates degree. He was a self employed carpenter, painter and mason. Mr. Fields was a member of Ebenezer Methodist Church in Olar, SC, and Emanuel Church of Christ, York, where he volunteered his time for their food bank. He also offered his time with the Foster Grandparent Program through the York City School District. He was a very social and outspoken person, who often quoted he was \"A little man with a big heart\" and \"I can do more with a paint brush, then a monkey can with a peanut\". In addition to his wife, Mary, Mr. Fields is survived by three sons; Joseph M. Fields of Harrisburg, Tony Fields, Sr. and wife, Josephine E. of Knox, PA, and Deon S. Fields of York; 12 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; four brothers, Frank Fields and wife, Rose of Hampton, VA, James Fields of NY, Walter Fields and wife, Frances of Denmark, SC, and Gerald Fields of Columbia, SC; five sisters, Lorraine Haynes and husband, Daniel, and Mary Fields all of NY, Celestine Corbet and husband, Joseph, Ruthine Fields, and Evelyn Fields all of Columbia, SC; cousins Josephine Tobin, Isaac Fields and Joseph Smith; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Fields; and a sister, Rebecca Haynes. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Foster Grandparent Program, 134 West Market Street, York, PA 17401.
