Joseph F. Muldowney, 88, of Pottsville, died Saturday at the Schuylkill Center. Born in Girardville on December 15, 1918, he was a son of the late William and Laura O'Brien Muldowney. He was a graduate of Frackville High School. From 1941 until 1945 he served his country in England, a veteran of the Army Air Corps. On November 29, 1945, he married the former Mary E. Bauer, who survives. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Pottsville and also the Knights of Columbus. For 38 years he was employed by Scranton Electric. He also managed Marathon Sports in Pottsville for 13 years. In addition to his wife, Mary, of 61 years, he is survived by: two sons, Joseph, of Pottsville and Kevin, and his wife Christine, of Port Carbon; five grandchildren, Kelly Michaud, Nicole Muldowney, Joshua Muldowney, Megan Muldowney and Logan Muldowney; two brothers, John, of Wilmington, DE and Patrick, of Reading; a sister, Theresa Gillesbie, of King of Prussia; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: three sisters, Mary Brennan, Elizabeth DeWald and Ursula Disipio; and two brothers, William and Edward. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 AM in the St. John the Baptist Church, Pottsville. The Rev. David Loeper will officiate. Family and friends may call at the church from 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. The Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, Inc. 6th & W. Market St. Pottsville, is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Joe's name to the St. John the Baptist Memorial Fund, 913 Mahontongo St., Pottsville, PA 17901.
