Joseph E. Nicholas

WILKES-BARRE-Joseph E. Nicholas of Wilkes-Barre, recently passed away at home. Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Anna Reilly Nicholas. He was a graduate of St. Ann's Monastery School, Scranton, and West Side Vo-Tech School. He attended L.C.C.C. and Wilkes College. Joe served in the United States Navy and the Naval Reserve. He was stationed in Bainbridge, Norfolk, Bermuda and other bases. He received the National Defense's Service Medal and an honorable discharge. He was employed in financial and retail management and the construction and machinist trades. He was a member of Holy Savior Church, the Crime Watch Committee, the Irish Cultural Society and several military associations. He offered his volunteer services to many causes. He was preceded in death by a brother, John; sisters Elizabeth Everhart and Marie. He is survived by a sister, Dorothy Christian and her husband, Charles (Joe's mentor); nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and dear friends. Private graveside services were held according to Joe's wishes. A United States Flag was presented to his family. Final and distinguished arrangements were by Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., Wilkes-Barre. A Memorial Mass will be offered at the convenience of the family. Joe loved God, his country, family and all. He was loved. He will be missed.
