DUPONT- Joseph E. Gorcenski, 78, of Front Street, Dupont, passed away Sunday Morning at Allied Services Skilled Nursing Center, Scranton, where he was a guest for a short time after a brief illness. Born in Dupont on May 8, 1931, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Romanowski) Gorcenski. Joseph graduated from Dupont High School in 1949 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont. Joseph worked for Atlas Chain Company, W. Pittston and later worked for Valley Manufacturing, Wilkes-Barre. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, the former Rita M. Chmielewski, a daughter, Sheryl Riley and her husband Michael, Dupont, a son, Joseph III,Dupont, a granddaughter, Amanda Boland, two sisters, Jean Bushinski and her husband, Richard, Dupont, Dorothy Dominick and her husband Angelo, Pittston, a brother, Bernard and his wife, Catherine, Duryea, several nieces and nephews. Joseph was preceded in death by a brother, Frank. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 9:30AM from Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 728 Main Street, Avoca with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM from Ss.Peter and Paul Church, Avoca. Father Joseph D. Verespy will officiate. Interment will from in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.
