Joseph A. Mayes

Sunbury - Joseph A. Mayes, age 74, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at Kramms Health Care in Milton, Pa. He was born in Bald Eagle Township on June 16, 1934, son of the late George T. and Arzona Walker Mayes. For the past years, he enjoyed fishing and building things. He was a member of the American Legion in Lock Haven. Joseph is survived by one son: Russell A. Mayes of Harrisburg, three daughters: Arzona L. Harris and her husband Christopher F. Harris of Factoryville, Pa., Stephanie A. Tompkins and her husband Edward A. Tompkins of Sunbury, and Kristine Keppel of Warren County, and a step daughter: Susan Miller of Clinton County. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren, one brother: George Mayes of Antes Fort, Pa. and two sisters: Ida Gardella and husband Larry of White Plains, N.Y. and Florence Shoemaker and husband Sam of Dunnstown. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Dorris and Mark Mayes. Memorial funeral services will held at the Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd, Mill Hall, at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2008 with Pastor Pat Bennett officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until service time. Interment will take place in Sunnyside Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are requested to the family to use as they desire.
