DALLASTOWN- Joseph A. Gallagher, 86, died Tuesday evening, November 27, 2007 at Dallastown Nursing Center. He was the loving husband of Janet A. (Boll) Gallagher. The couple celebrated 57 years of marriage on August 26, 2007. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am this Saturday, December 1, 2007 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 251 E. Main St., Dallastown with the Rev. Charles L. Persing officiating. Interment will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion is assisting with the service. Mr. Gallagher was born in Philadelphia on June 14, 1921, a son of the late Andrew J. and Bridget (McGovern) Gallagher. He entered the US Navy in 1942 and served overseas until 1952. Mr. Gallagher was employed with Mechanicsburg Naval Inventory Control Point/ Defense Supply Depot as a machinist for over 25 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the American Legion Post 605 Dallastown; Veterans of Foreign War Post 1446, Red Lion; The Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge 1592, Red Lion; and the Victory Club, York. Mr. Gallagher was a life member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and served as an Usher as well as being a member of the Knights of Columbus. He taught at York County Area Vocational-Technical School in the machine shop. In his free time he enjoyed fishing and playing Gin Rummy with his family. In addition to his wife, Janet, Mr. Gallagher is survived by two sons, Joseph J. and his wife, Melissa Gallagher of Nashville, TN, and Damian P. and his wife, Marybeth Gallagher of York; three daughters, Rachel P. and her husband, Roland Martin of Lebanon, Regina M. and her husband, Paul Irvin of Red Lion, and Bridget C. Gallagher of York; four grandchildren, Nicole Irvin and Taylor, Damian, and Joseph Gallagher; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a grandson, Wayne A. Godfrey; a brother, Andrew Gallagher; and two sisters, Margaret Black and Catherine McGann. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 251 E. Main St., Dallastown, PA 17313.
