Joseph A. 'Bud' Henz, Jr.

DOVER – Joseph A. “Bud” Henz, Jr., 85, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at his home. He was the husband of the late Diane Lee (Hoover) Henz and the late Theresa (Worrell) Henz. Born March 2, 1929 in Philadephia, a son of the late Katherine (Rightley) and Joseph A. Henz, Sr., he was in an independent truck driver for many years and later drove for Kinard Trucking Co. Bud was a member of Baltimore VFW, Shiloh American Legion, 82nd Airborne Assoc., and Purple Heart Association. Mr. Henz was a US Army veteran of WWII where he served in the 82nd Airborne Division and stormed the beaches of Normandy. His service honors include a Purple Heart, Silver Star, Bronze Star, and the Distinguished Service Cross. Mr. Henz is survived by a son, Michael P. Henz, Sr. and wife Linda Henz of Dover; a stepdaughter, Lynn and husband Eric Marks of York; a grandson, Michael A. Henz; and a sister, Elaine Combs of Philadelphia. Funeral services and burial will be private. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Any friend of Bud is welcome to stop by his home to pay their respects to his family. He was getting up in age, His hair was thinning fast, He told us all this one day, The chilling stories of his past. Of a war that he had fought in, And the deeds that he had done, Sharing tough times with his buddies, All were heroes…every one. Sometimes to the neighbors, His tales became a joke, But his son attentively listened, For he knew well of the pain he spoke. But we’ll hear his tales no more, For this “trooper’s” passed away, And the world’s a little poorer, For a hero’s died today. He was an airborne soldier, And his ranks are growing thin, But we’ll need one like him someday, For the time will come again. So if we cannot do him the honor, While he is here to reap the praise, Let us offer him our love and respect, Here at the ending of his days.
