Red Lion — Jonathan Lester “Butch” Butcher, Jr., 87, died Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Manor Care Health Services-South. He was the husband of A. Ann (Kleiderlein) Montgomery Butcher to whom he was married for 25 years and the late June D. (Grove) Butcher with whom he was married for 35 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10 AM, Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with Pastor Troy R. Harrold officiating. Viewings will be held from 6-8 PM, Wednesday and from 9-10 AM, Thursday, at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the Dallastown American Legion. Born April 10, 1925 in York, he was a son the late Margaret E. (Lebenight) and Jonathan L. Butcher, Sr. He was employed with Dallastown School District in their maintenance department for 10 years until retirement in 1987. He previously worked as an electrical designer for a total of 20 years with Glasglow Associates and Buchart Associates. A United States Army Veteran of World War II, he was also a member of Dallastown American Legion and the Adamsville United Methodist Church, where he attended for 50 plus years and was formerly their Sunday school superintendent and trustee. He had a passion for woodworking and for many years helped his father at Butch’s Cabinet Shop in Dallastown. An avid bowler, he was a member of several local area senior leagues and enjoyed fishing. He was a true family man, a wonderful husband and very loving father and grandfather. In addition to his wife, Mr. Butcher is also survived by three children, Debra A. Berkheimer and husband, Dean of York, Jonathan L. Butcher III and his wife, Shelley of Loganville and Kenneth M. Butcher of Red Lion; three step children, Joseph H. Montgomery of Baltimore, MD, James E. Montgomery and wife, Julie of Fallston, MD and Steven M. Montgomery of Delta; nine grandchildren, Beth Mescolotto, Keith Berkheimer, Traci Einsig, Matthew Butcher, Laura Montgomery, Mark Montgomery, Jessica Montgomery, James Montgomery II and Christopher Shehane; two great grandchildren, Tyler Einsig and Carter Butcher; two sisters, Evelyn E. Koller of York and Doris J. Coble of Danville, VA and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Butcher and one sister, Jeanette Martin. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Adamsville United Methodist Church, 81 S. Main Street, Yoe, Pa 17313 or a charity of your choice.
