John Walker

BEAR CREEK-John Walker, 84, of Bear Creek, died Wednesday evening in the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plain Township. Born in Carbondale on December 30, 1922, he was a son of the late John and Louise (Beard) Walker and was a graduate of Carbondale High School. Mr. Walker was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II. Her served as a Seaman 1st Class on the SSN 703 USS Boston and was the recipient of 10 Battle Stars. Prior to retiring, he was employed at the Assistant Superintendent of the Transportation Department of the Delaware Hudson Rail Road. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John Walker, Jr., and two sisters, Gertrude Alexander and Grace Moon and brother Harold Walker. Surviving is his wife, the former Laura Allen; a son Clinton Walker and wife Nancy, Danville; a daughter Linda Mack and husband Butch, Barnesville; 7 grandchildren Matthew and Joshua Mack, Laura Mack-Gnall, John and Elizabeth Walker, Greg and Ben Pitman; 2 brothers, Robert and Fredrick Walker; 2 sisters Louise Walker-Colosimo and Shirley Reed. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 465 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. The Reverend Reginald Thomas, pastor of Messiah Primitive Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Caanan Corners Cemetery, Waymart. Friends may call Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Primitive Methodist Church, 110 Pittston Blvd., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
