John T. Michael

YORK – John T. Michael, 95, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2021 at County Meadows at Leader Heights. He was the loving husband of the late Nora M. (O’Meara) Michael and a devoted and loving father to three sons, the late William T. Michael, J. Christopher Michael, and Steven A. Michael. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 23, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2935 Kingston Road, York. A visitation will be held from 10-11:00 AM Thursday at the Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Wrightsville with full military honors presented by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Michael was born on September 20, 1925 in Hanover, a son of the late William and Elizabeth Michael. While still in high school he enlisted into the US Navy and served his obligation as a SeaBee during WWII. Following his military service, Mr. Michael returned to York and joined his father in the food marketing business. John had owned and operated the former Mt. Rose Market. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. Through the Penn State Extension, Mr. Michael trained to be a Master Gardener. Along with his love of gardening, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed purchasing and re-selling used cars. Mr. Michael is survived by two sons and three daughters-in-law, J. Christopher and wife Linda (Hanna) Michael of Wyomissing, PA and Steven A. and wife Kimberly (Laughman) Michael of York; a daughter-in-law, Linda (Chronister) Michael of York; six grandchildren, Timothy and Jodi Michael, Whitney Michael, John Michael, Erin Michael, Maria Michael and Max Daugherty and Tiffeny and Daniel Hall; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marguerite Leppo and Mary Ellen Fogel both of York.
