John S. Howard

YORK—John S. Howard, 74, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2021 at UPMC—West Shore after a short illness following surgery. He was the husband of Rebecca M. (Stornes) Howard to whom he was married for 46 years. A Celebration of Life Tribute will be held on Monday, June 28th at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market Street, York. A visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a service at 11:00 AM. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York is in charge of arrangements. Born January 13, 1947 in Jamestown, New York, he was the son of the late Osmond H. and Helen (Stoddard) Howard. He graduated from Frewsburg High School in 1965 and Alfred University in 1969 with a degree in Ceramic Engineering. He was employed with The J. E. Baker Company/RHI Magnesita for 51 years as a Regional Sales and Service Representative and Consultant until his retirement in 2020. A long-time member of the Outdoor Country Club, he enjoyed playing golf and socializing with friends, and was an enthusiastic fan of the Cleveland Indians and the Penn State Nittany Lions. He cherished time with his family, especially annual family vacations at Bethany Beach, DE. In addition to his wife, Mr. Howard is also survived by one son, Nathan J. Howard and wife, Kelly of Lancaster, PA; one daughter, Krista M. Whitehead and husband, Jabari of Media,PA; four grandchildren, Katherine and Cooper Howard and Avery and Evan Whitehead; sister-in-law, Kathleen Stornes; sibling-like cousins, Kathryn Ekstrom, Thomas Allison, Michele Sandberg, Patricia Nelson, and James Hale.
