John S. Brant, Jr.

Dallastown - John S. Brant, Jr., 98, went to be with the Lord on Friday January 22, 2021. He was the husband of the late Ruth A. (Markey) Brant, who preceded him in death on January 27, 2015. The couple was wed on August 9, 1947. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Codorus Church of the Brethren 1129 Dunkard Valley Rd, Dallastown, PA 17313 at 11:00AM on Thursday, January 28th. A private burial will take place after the service. The service will be live streamed on the Olewiler & Heffner Funeral home Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/olewilertributes/. All PA Department of Health COVID-19 guidelines will be followed for the Service. Born September 3, 1922 on a dairy farm near Dallastown, PA, John was the son of the late John S. Brant, Sr. and Lola M. (Walker) Brant. He completed elementary school at Kohler School House and attended Dallastown High School. In 1945, John accepted the calling from his church and provided Christian service as a Seagoing Cowboy on the Gainesville Victory ship, delivering cattle and horses to worn-torn countries in Europe. This was a partnership between the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Agency (UNRRA) and the Brethren Service Committee. They owned a farm near Dallastown and with the help of their six children raised vegetables, fruits and livestock. John enjoyed riding motorcycles in his youth with friends. He even acquired his pilot’s license in a Piper Cub at York Airport. Mr. Brant worked at A.B. Farquhar and Caterpillar Tractor Company, where he retired after 30 years of service. John also volunteered at York Hospital for 18 years with over 7,500 hours. He was a life-time member of Codorus Church of the Brethren and Deacon (along-with Ruth) and he was very active on the building committee and others. John continued to live on the family farm until his passing. John is survived by his six children; Jane S. Gordon of York; J. Stephen Brant of Seven Valleys; Thomas R. Brant, Nancy K. Orwick, Jack S. Brant, and Jeffrey S. Brant (all from Dallastown), eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister Shirley C. Ferree, York. John was predeceased in death by three sisters and one brother, Esther M. Hoover, Tacoma Park, MD; Bernice G. Butcher, York; Wayne W. Brant, New Oxford and Miriam Brant, Dallastown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Codorus Church of the Brethren, 1129 Dunkard Valley Road, Dallastown, PA 17313 or just spend more time with your family.
