John Ritcherson Harrington

YORK- One more saint has graduated to Heaven. On August 27, 2009 God answered John R. Harrington's fervent prayer and called him home. He was 87. John is preceded in death by his wife Lola E. (Hammon) Harrington, who passed away July 13, 2004. Services for Mr. Harrington will be private. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Harrington was born on October 5, 1921 in Sheridan, AR, a son of the late Thomas and Amanda (Crutchfield) Harrington. John was a Veteran of WWII where he served the Army for four years as an airplane and engine mechanic. Mr. Harrington went on to work for NOAA as an electronics technician at weather stations at the South Pole and North Pole, and in Louisville, KY, St. Louis, MO, and Springfield, IL where he retired in March 1987. Mr. Harrington is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Evans and husband Mike of York; four grandchildren, Michelle Yoder and husband Matt of Madison, WI, John Evans and wife Andria of York, Carrie Neff and husband Jeremy of Spring Grove, and Rebecca Favinger and husband Ron of York; five great grandchildren, Kyra and Bailey Evans, Cara Neff, and Ethan and Eliot Favinger; and by his friends at White Rose Hospice who took such excellent care of him. John was a much loved and respected friend, husband, father, grandfather & great grandfather.
