John R. Sowers

YORK- John R. Sowers, 71, died on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at his residence. He was the husband of Helen E. (Emig) Sowers. The couple had been married for 49 years. Services for Mr. Sowers are private at the convenience of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements. Born on March 19, 1944 in York, he was the son of the late Donald and Jean (Sowers) Hammel. John was a machinist for Voith Hydro, Inc. until his retirement. Mr. Sowers served our country for three years in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Ninth Ward, Twelfth Ward and the Delphia Athletic Association, Inc. Along with his wife, Helen, John is survived by two sons, Jaime Sowers of York and Jody Sowers and his wife, Elizabeth of York; two daughters, Cindy Simmons and her husband, Michael of Fredericksburg, VA and Sherry Real and her husband, Leland of York; one step daughter, Rose Snyder and her husband, Carl of York; nine grandchildren, Corey, Chad, Autumn, Anthony, Tyler, Conan, Zachary, Katelyn and Grace; and six great grandchildren.
