Troy, Pennsylvania John R. Smith, III, Age 64 of Canton Street, Troy, PA passed away Monday, December 15, 2008 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA. Family and friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 PM, Friday, December 19, 2008 at the Gerald W. Vickery Funeral Home, Inc. 110 W. Main Street, Troy, PA. John was born July 11, 1944 in Elmira, New York son of the late John R., Jr. and Florence Evelyn Heath Smith. He was retired from the Pennsylvania State Police where he was Station Commander. He also worked as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor for Tioga County. John was a member of the Unitarian Church in Towanda, PA and a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Free and Accepted Masons. Survivors include his children, Sean & Denise Smith of Morganton, NC, Susan & Timothy Lentz of Newport News, VA, Sara & Moises Robles of Tampa, FL, step-children, Kelly & Scott Watkins of Columbia Cross Roads, PA, Freal "Allen" & Yuko Moore of Japan, Paul Moore of Covington, PA, a sister, JeanAnn & Doug Elvidge of Huber Heights, OH, 11 grandchildren, one niece, one nephew, numerous cousins, friends and his canine buddy "Goofy".
