John R. Simmons

YORK- John R. Simmons, 92, died on Friday, April 22, 2016 at Normandie Ridge. He was the husband of the late Audrey E. (Burger) Simmons. The couple wed on March 4, 1950. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Mt. Rose Cemetery, 1502 Mt. Rose Ave., York with Pastor David Brinker officiating and full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. A funeral cortege will for at the entrance of the cemetery at 1:45 p.m. Born on February 10, 1924 in York, he was a son of the late Roy P. and Kathryn A. (Patterson) Simmons. John was an electrical engineer for Herbach & Rademan, Co. Mr. Simmons served our country in the U.S. Navy for three years and nine months during WWII. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in York and enjoyed singing in the choir. Mr. Simmons is survived by one son, Rodger J. Simmons and his wife, Roberta of York; one granddaughter, Mindi Pittenger and her husband, Branden of York; and three great grandchildren, Colin Simmons, Thomas Pittenger and Grace Pittenger. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Don and Roy Simmons; and one sister, Mary Koontz. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 37 N. Broad St., York, PA 17403.
