John R. Prescott

YORK- John R. Prescott, 96, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2018 at his home. He was the husband of Norma Jean (Bortner) Prescott to whom he was married 68 years. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held at 10AM on Monday, November 19, 2018 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York, with Reverend Robert E. Brown officiating. Visitation will be held from 9-10AM prior to the service. Born February 14, 1922 in Dallastown, John was a son to the late Royal P. and Kathryn (Wise) Prescott. He was a graduate of Dallastown High School and York Junior College. Mr. Prescott served our country in the United States Army during World War II in the South Pacific where he earned the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with two battle stars. He was a member of Heidelberg United Church of Christ where he served as treasurer for three years and was a Sunday School teacher for 15 years. He was employed as a controller and business manager at Community Progress Council, Inc. for 29 years, until his retirement in 2002, and continued to work part-time thereafter. John served in various capacities in the Boy Scouts of America for 25 years. He was also a member and past Secretary of the National Association of Accountants, and was past President and a life member of PTA. In addition to his wife, Mr. Prescott is survived by his son, Steve Prescott; daughter, Debra Prescott, and grandson, Ian Prescott. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Dallmeyer, and two brothers, Roy Prescott, Jr. and Robert Prescott.
