John P. Shaw

WILKES-BARRE-John Primo Shaw, 48, of Wilkes-Barre, died unexpectedly while hiking with friends on Tuesday. Born in Wilkes-Barre on December 23, 1959, he was the son of William L. Shaw, Sr., of Wilkes-Barre and the late Rose L. (Parenti) Shaw. He attended L.C.C.C. and New Jersey Carpenter School. He was a member of St. Mary's Church of the Immaculate Conception, Wilkes-Barre. He was also a member of the New Jersey Carpenters Union 455. He was dedicated to his family and his Christian faith. He loved sports and was a member of the Flag Football League at the Wyoming Valley Sports Dome having played for the Outlaws and most recently for Sarny's Young Bucks. In the 1980's to the 1990's, he played for the Footstompers in a local basketball league. A Black Belt in Karate, he was an instructor at Stars and Stripes Gym. He was employed as a guard at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Cindy Ann (Valderrama) Shaw; sons John Primo Shaw, Jr., Hamilton, NJ; Brandon Lee Shaw, Hunlock Creek; stepchildren; Darrell Mark Kelso; Marissa Lynn Kelso; Seth Hugo Kelso and James McGee; brother William L. Shaw, Jr., and his wife, Carol, Wilkes-Barre; niece, Jessica Shaw and nephew, William "B. J." Shaw. Friends may call Friday evening from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 465 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 9:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Church of the Immaculate Conception, 134 South Washington St., Wilkes-Barre. Monsignor Thomas V. Banick will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Shrine Cemetery. Friends are asked to go directly to the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Peaceful Crossings Adventure Ministries, P.O.
