John P. Mingora Sr

York—John P. Mingora Sr, 76, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 18, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Charlean M. (Dennis) Mingora to whom he was married for 55 years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM, Thursday, February 23, 2012 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 950 W. Market Street, York, with the Rev. Thomas R. Hoke officiating. A viewing will be held from 6-9 PM, Wednesday, at Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York. Burial will be held in Holy Saviour Cemetery with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born June 29, 1935 in York, he was the son of the late Alfonso and Victoria (Messina) Mingora. He graduated from York Catholic High School in 1953. A United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War, he served aboard the USS Briarus-AR12, USS Prevail-AG20 and at the Command Staff US Naval War College in Newport, RI. He retired in 1999 from private industry in contract administration, marketing, sales and quality assurance and most recently served as a Tipstaff at the York County Judicial Center A parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church since 1958, he served as an usher for many years. He was a member of the Order Sons of Italy in America – Post 528 where he served in many positions including past President and Vice President. Additionally, he served as the Recorder Secretary on the board of directors for the Christopher Columbus Scholarship Fund. He was also a member of the Shiloh American Legion – Post 791, West York V.F.W. – Post 8951, associate member of the U.S. Naval War College Foundation, Newport, RI and was a retired PIAA Basketball and Football official. John is survived by his son, John Mingora Jr, and his wife, Jennifer of York; three daughters, Victoria Lankford and her husband, Scott of York, Cynthia Sipe and her husband, Todd of Dover and Andrea Markham and her husband, Robert of Cumming, GA; six grandchildren, Valerie, Kristin, Aimee, Nathan, Laura and Cara; four great grandchildren, Autumn, Andrew, Everett and Adelaide; two step grandchildren, Miranda and Justin; one sister, Catherine Herrington of Lancaster, CA and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew Mingora. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 950 W.
