TROY - John McDonald, Age 96, of Redington Avenue Troy, PA passed away Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Bradford County Manor. John was born May 26, 1917 in Morris Run son of the late Clarence F. and Juliana (Whittle) McDonald. John was veteran of WW II serving his country with the US Army. He served in Central Europe, Rhineland and Rome-Arno areas during the war. He began his employment with the Chemung Foundry in 1948 and retired in 1981 as a foreman following 33 years of dedicated service. He attended the Big Pond United Methodist Church and was an avid lifelong bowler. He bowled in many leagues over the years, lastly with the Monday Senior Citizen’s League at Troy Lanes. John also enjoyed baking pies to share with his friends. Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Neil J. (Doralene) McDonald and Kent R. (Irene) McDonald all of Big Pond, his loving grandchildren, Shanalee Seidel, Heather (James) Strohl, Jason (Kimberly) McDonald, great-grandchildren, John & Kailee Seidel and Alyssa & Emily McDonald, a brother-in-law, Robert Kemp of Elkland, several nieces, nephews and cousins. John was predeceased by his parents, his loving wife Barbara R. (Smith) McDonald, sisters, Donna Kemp, Pearl Lemont, and his brother, Clarence McDonald. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service that will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, October 24, 2013 in Hillside Cemetery, Big Pond, PA. with Reverend Richard Noggle officiating. A memorial service to honor John’s life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Gerald W. Vickery Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main Street, Troy, PA. In lieu of flowers memorials in John’s memory may be made to the Big Pond United Methodist Church, 1204 Redington Avenue, Troy, PA 16947.
