John M. Barler

YORK - John M. Barler, 64 died Thursday, March 5, 2009 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Lynn M. (Jalas) Barler with whom he was married for 34 years on September 14, 2008. Following cremation, a Memorial Service will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. A visitation with family will be held from 1-2:00 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial is private at the request of the family. Mr. Barler was born August 16, 1944 in Milwaukee, WI, a son of the late Herman and Winifred (Lodde) Barler. He was a graduate of Wauwatosa East High School in Milwaukee, and earned his college degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He was a former employee of Harley Davidson for 17 years and later worked as the Director of Human Resources for UCP of SCPA until his retirement in 2008. Mr. Barler was an avid golfer, a member of the Outdoor Country Club in York, and previously served as a member on their house committee. He enjoyed gardening, loved game night with his neighbors, and watching college football. His favorite teams were Penn State and the University of Wisconsin. One of his favorite pastimes was traveling out west with his wife to visit friends in Sacramento, CA, Arizona, and Kansas. In addition to his wife and his beloved dog Chip, Mr. Barler is survived by a brother, Richard Barler of Milwaukee, WI. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Barler.
